Chemical Compatibility of Our Wetted Materials

The materials in our single-use flow path were selected on purpose to withstand the aggressive process, cleaning, and cryopreservation chemistries of modern bioprocessing. Here is how they perform.

The PIXER pump and the VannX and Vannefold valves share the same single-use wetted flow path, and its materials were chosen specifically for compatibility with the harsh chemistries that modern bioprocessing actually runs. That includes the cleaning agents needed for reusable-adjacent workflows, the salts and buffers of protein and vector purification, and the solvents used in cell and gene therapy, DMSO in particular. This page is the evidence. It sets out, reagent by reagent, how each wetted material stands up at typical bioprocess use conditions, so specifying engineers can check compatibility for their process without guessing from generic material charts.

Pump chamber & valve block

Machined polypropylene, shared across PIXER pumps and VannX / Vannefold valves.

Diaphragm / seal

Available in TPV or EPDM, common to the pump diaphragm and the valve diaphragm.

Flow path

Fully single-use, closed, and air-free across the whole product-contact surface.

Frequently asked questions

What are the wetted materials in Alphinity single-use pumps and valves?

The wetted flow path across the PIXER pump and the VannX and Vannefold valves uses the same materials: machined polypropylene for the pump chamber and valve block, and a diaphragm available in TPV or EPDM. These materials were selected for compatibility with harsh bioprocess, cleaning, and cryopreservation chemistries.

Are Alphinity pumps and valves compatible with DMSO?

Yes. The wetted materials were chosen for compatibility with solvents used in cell and gene therapy, and DMSO is rated compatible across TPV, EPDM, and polypropylene at typical use concentrations.

Can I clean these pumps and valves with sodium hydroxide?

Yes, at typical cleaning concentrations. Polypropylene and TPV are rated A, and EPDM is rated B, meaning suitable but worth verifying for your specific concentration and temperature.

What about peracetic acid?

Peracetic acid is an oxidizer, so compatibility depends strongly on concentration and contact time. At dilute sanitization strength it is compatible, with EPDM performing best. Confirm with our engineers for your concentration.

Under what conditions do these ratings apply?

Ambient to approximately 40 C at in-use concentrations. Higher concentrations, temperatures, or prolonged exposure can change the outcome, so verify for your process.
